Candidate 1  -  5/8

Q6(a) - The candidate was awarded 2 marks because ‘give the product to people’ and ‘test how they are able to use the product’ gains full marks.

Q6(b) - The candidate was awarded 0 marks because the response was incorrect there was no mention of aesthetics. Appealing could be functional appeal etc.

Q6(c) - The candidate was awarded 2 marks because ‘market with a specific theme for different times of year’ and ‘special offers’ are correct responses.

Q6(d) - The candidate was awarded 1 mark because ‘compile multiple pictures’ is correct. It should be noted there are 0 marks awarded for naming the technique, which in this response was mood board.

Candidate 2 - 6/8

Q6(a) - The candidate was awarded 2 marks because giving the razor to a range of men and finding out if it is difficult to use are correct responses.

Q6(b) - The candidate was awarded 1 mark because the second response, which states ‘do you like the overall look of this razor’, is correct.

Q6(c) - The candidate was awarded 1 mark because they are both advertisements. It could be argued 2D graphics are static and TV adverts have motion and could be seen as different forms of promotion. However 1 mark awarded.

Q6(d) - The candidate was awarded 2 marks because, survey the public to generate ideas followed by incorporate those factors that the public would like describes two stages very well.  This is not a traditional response, but it is relevant and true; thus it gains full marks.

Candidate 3 - 6/8

Q6(a) - The candidate was awarded 2 marks because ‘hand them out’ and get ‘feedback’ on how they work gains full marks.

Q6(b) - The candidate was awarded 1 mark because ‘do you like how this looks’ is correct.  The second question is not evaluative but generative.

Q6(c) - The candidate was awarded 2 marks because ‘billboards’ and ‘on offer’ are two correct responses.

Q6(d) - The candidate was awarded 1 mark because use other people’s ideas is a correct response.  We may describe that as existing product research, however we understand the candidate clearly.
