Candidate 1 - 8/8

Q4(a) (i)  - The candidate was awarded 2 marks because it states ‘sketch’ and ‘see what the product will look like’ gains full marks.

Q4(a) (ii) - The candidate was awarded 2 marks because 3D cad drawing showing correct dimensions gains full marks.

Q4(b) -  The candidate was awarded 4 marks because ‘card’ which can be ‘easily sourced’ gains 2 marks and ‘foam’ gives complex ‘curves’ gains a further 2 marks.


Candidate 2 - 7/8

Q4(a) (i) - The candidate was awarded 2 marks because sketches showing colour and materials are correct responses.

Q4(a) (ii) - The candidate was awarded 1 mark because ‘inventor’ is incorrect as it is a software package brand, but the description of ‘realistic 3D shapes and sizes’ is correct for 1 mark.

Q4(b) - The candidate was awarded 4 marks because paper giving rough idea of the product gains 2 marks and clay which is cheap also gains 2 marks.


Candidate 3 - 6/8

Q4(a) (i) - The candidate was awarded 0 marks because the orthographic response is incorrect.

Q4(a) (ii) - The candidate was awarded 2 marks because ‘exploded diagram’ followed by ‘parts and sizes’ gains full marks.

Q4(b) - The candidate was awarded 4 marks because expanded foam was accepted along with easy to work with. ‘Lolly sticks’ was accepted but no mark was awarded for recycling of lolly sticks as this is an environmental response, however  in the follow on reading 1 mark was awarded for cheap.
