Events

Programme 2025 - 2026

Understanding Standards events focus on helping teachers, lecturers and assessors to develop their understanding of national standards for course and/or unit assessment.

Events will be either a half day or full day session following a workshop format. We’ll publish candidate evidence and accompanying commentaries used during the event workshops for anyone who is unable to attend on the day.

Events are free to join and can contribute to your continuing professional development (CPD). CPD certificates will be available on our event booking system shortly after each event.

October Events

 

Practical Cake Craft, National 5, 1 October 2025, Glasgow/online, 10:00-13:00

This event will focus on the changes to the course assessment for National 5 Practical Cake Craft.

 

Scottish Baccalaureate, SCQF level 7, 2 October 2025, Glasgow/online, 10:00-16:00

This event will focus on the Interdisciplinary Project for the Scottish Baccalaureate. You will have the opportunity to review and discuss some candidate evidence with colleagues during workshop activities.

 

Drama, Higher, 3 October 2025, Glasgow/online, 10:00-16:00

This event will focus on the revised Higher Drama question paper and marking instructions. This event will also cover the Performance component. You will have the opportunity to review and discuss candidate evidence with colleagues during workshop activities.

 

Practical Metalworking, National 5, 7 October 2025, Glasgow/online, 09:30-12:30

This event will focus on the course assessment, the practical activity. You will have the opportunity to discuss the allocation of marks for the three sections of the practical activity, including the new case study and clarify your understanding of standards with colleagues and senior SQA appointees.

 

Practical Woodworking, National 5, 7 October 2025, Glasgow/online, 13:30-16:30

This event will focus on the course assessment, the practical activity. You will have the opportunity to discuss the allocation of marks for the three sections of the practical activity, including the new case study and clarify your understanding of standards with colleagues and senior SQA appointees.

 

Care, Higher, 9 October 2025, Glasgow/online, 10:00-16:00

This event will focus on the Higher Care course assessment with a particular focus on the project. You will have the opportunity to review and discuss candidate evidence with colleagues during workshop activities.

 

Mathematics, Advanced Higher, 11 October 2025, Glasgow/online, 09:30-12:30

This event will focus on the Advanced Higher Mathematics course assessment. You will have the opportunity to review and discuss candidate evidence with colleagues during workshop activities.

 

Applications of Mathematics, Higher, 25 October 2025, Glasgow/online, 09:30-12:30

This event will focus on the Higher Applications of Mathematics course assessment. You will have the opportunity to review and discuss candidate evidence with colleagues during workshop activities.

 

NPA Costume: An Introduction to Cutting, Sewing and Surface Decoration, SCQF level 5, 25 October 2025, Glasgow/online, 10:00-13:00

This event will focus on assessment for the NPA Costume: An Introduction to Cutting, Sewing and Surface Decoration with a particular focus on Garment Pattern Construction (D0RY11). You will have the opportunity to review and discuss candidate evidence with colleagues during workshop activities.

 

Mental Health and Wellbeing Award, SCQF levels 4, 5 and 6, 28 October 2025, Glasgow/online, 10:00-16:00

This event will focus on evidence gathering and assessment for the Mental Health and Wellbeing Award at SCQF levels 4, 5 and 6. You will have the opportunity to review and discuss candidate evidence with colleagues during workshop activities.

This event will focus on the Higher Media assignment and question paper 1 (analysis of media content). You will have the opportunity to review and discuss candidate evidence with colleagues during workshop activities.

This will be a joint event lead by SQA and Education Scotland (ES) which will explain the standards for assessment for the Higher PE question paper and discuss high quality learning and teaching approaches for delivery.

This event will focus on the National 5 Classical Studies course assessment. You will have the opportunity to review and discuss candidate evidence with colleagues during workshop activities.

 

Philosophy, National 5 and Higher, 14 November 2025, Glasgow/online, 09:30-15:30

This event will focus on the National 5 and Higher Philosophy course assessment. You will have the opportunity to review and discuss candidate evidence with colleagues during workshop activities.

This event will focus on question papers for Latin at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher, with a particular focus on the different questions types and how they are assessed and marked. ESOL, National 2, 3, 4 and 5, 21 November 2025, Glasgow, 10:00-13:00

This event will focus on the less commonly used ESOL units at National 2 - National 5, including freestanding units, ESOL for Employability units and ESOL Listening and Speaking units.

 

Physical Education, Advanced Higher, 25 November 2025, Glasgow/online, 10:00-15:30

This event will explain the standards for assessment for the Advanced Higher Project.

 

English, Higher, 29 November 2025, Glasgow/online, 09:30-15:30

This event will focus on the Higher English question papers: Reading for Understanding, Analysis and Evaluation (question paper 1) and Critical Reading (question paper 2). You will have the opportunity to review and discuss candidate evidence with colleagues during workshop activities.

This event will focus on the National 5 and Higher ESOL end of course examination components (Reading, Writing and Listening papers) as well as the course speaking and listening assessment (IACCA). You will have the opportunity to review and discuss candidate evidence with colleagues.
