Remediation and Reassessment
Remediation is when a candidate’s work is marked and returned to them. They are then permitted to make changes in line with an assessor’s feedback in order to reach a passable standard.
Reassessment is when the candidate is required to sit an alternative examination-based assessment or complete an alternative practical.
Remediation
Remediation can be used for laboratory reports, pro formas, laboratory diary entries or essay type assessments.
Candidates will often be permitted one opportunity to make the required changes. If the evidence is not revised to a satisfactory standard, they would need to complete an alternative practical and write-up.
Oral remediation is not permitted.
Remediation cannot be used for examination-based assessments.
Reassessment
If a candidate does not attain the required pass mark in an examination-based assessment, they need to be reassessed using an alternative examination-based assessment. It is possible to only reassess the outcome(s) that the candidate failed to achieve.
If a candidate does not perform an assessed practical to the required standard, they will be given the chance to either reattempt the same practical or to undertake a different practical of similar complexity.
