Audio Presentations

Presentations can be accessed/downloaded using the links below. Open power point to access all files.

To support the delivery and assessment of all of the NPAs in science, the following generic audio presentations have been developed:

National Progression Awards (SCQF Levels 4-6)

Internal verification and standardisation

Internal verification and standardisation are key aspects of the NPAs. All centres delivering the group awards must have robust internal verification and standardisation processes and procedures.

The audio presentation below provides information, advice and guidance:

Further information is available via the links below:

Evidence requirements

NPAs contain a range of unit types and may contain unit specifications that you are not familiar with. The content of each unit specification must be taught in full, and all performance criteria/evidence requirements must be achieved.

Assessment Support Packs (ASPs)/Unit Assessment Support Packs (UASPs) help to exemplify the required standard. Where an ASP/UASP is available, you should review the requirements of the unit specification in conjunction with the ASP/UASP to help you gain a better understanding.

The audio presentation below provides information, advice and guidance:

The transfer of evidence for Outcome 1 in the National 4 courses does not apply to the NPAs. Learners must complete an Outcome 1 report for each science. This is to ensure that a learner completing a National 4 Biology/Chemistry/Physics unit has carried out an experiment/practical investigation in biology/chemistry/physics. This also applies to the freestanding SCQF level 5 units (previously part of the National 5 Biology/Chemistry/Physics courses).

Selecting practicals

You will need to assess various practical techniques/experiments as part of the NPAs.

The audio presentation below provides information, advice and guidance:

Lab reports, lab diaries, proformas and observation checklists

Each unit specification states the reporting requirements for the practical activity. This may include the requirement for an assessor observation checklist, proforma, laboratory diary or laboratory report.
