Marker's commentary:
The candidate was awarded 1 mark because:
- Imperfect was the correct answer for part (f).
- Part (a), the time signature is not accepted as it is above the stave. Time signature must be at the beginning of the piece, on the stave and after the key signature.
- Part (b), pp is not included in the marking instructions as an acceptable answer.
- Part (c), the third note has not been written with the required accuracy, therefore no mark is awarded. The majority of the note head must be in the correct place.
- Part (d), the response should have a double bar line with a dot in the middle two spaces of the stave at the end of bar 8 to be awarded the mark.

Marker's commentary:
The candidate was awarded 1 mark because:
- In part (c) the missing notes were inserted accurately.
- In part (a), the time signature is incorrect. The time signature must be at the beginning of the piece, on the stave and after the key signature.
- In part (b), pf is incorrect.
- In part (d), although the candidate has correctly placed the repeat sign at the end of bar 8, this is cancelled out by the additional entry in the previous bar and is therefore marked as incorrect.
- Parts (e) and (f) are incorrect.

Marker's commentary:
The candidate was awarded 5 marks because:
- Parts (a), (b), (c), (e) and (f) are correct.
- In part (a), the time signature is in small writing, but is identifiable and at the beginning of the piece, on the stave and after the key signature.
- In part (d), although the dots are correctly placed at the end of bar 8, the double bar line has been omitted.

Marker's commentary:
The candidate was awarded 4 marks because:
- Parts (b), (c), (e) and (f) are correct.
- For part (a) the time signature must appear after the key signature – see Marking Instructions.
- For part (d), the candidate response should have a double bar line with a dot in each of the middle two spaces of the stave at the end of bar 8 to be awarded the mark.
